2026 Yaŋpá Spring-Wind Celebration Returns for Another Year of Dakota Teachings and Community
The 2026 Yaŋpá Spring-Wind Celebration welcomed the community back to Battle Creek for a day of Dakota teachings, Indigenous artistry, and seasonal renewal. Through hands-on workshops, cultural activities, the debut of a Four Winds teaching zine, and the first signs of the growing Three Sisters Garden, the celebration honored Yaŋpá while bringing people of all ages together to learn, create, and connect with one another and the land.
2026 Wazíya Winter-Wind Celebration Returns as Part of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival
The Second Annual Wazíya Winter-Wind Celebration welcomed hundreds of community members to Battle Creek as part of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival. Through Dakota winter teachings, Indigenous artistry, hands-on workshops, storytelling, an Indigenous market, and outdoor activities, the celebration honored Wazíya, the Dakota North Wind, while bringing people of all ages together to experience the warmth of community during the winter season.
Éya Autumn-Wind Celebration Brings Community Together to Welcome the Season of Change
The 2025 Éya Autumn-Wind Celebration welcomed the community to Battle Creek for a day of Dakota teachings, Indigenous art, environmental stewardship, and seasonal renewal. Featuring hands-on workshops, storytelling, a Native market, and the distribution of more than 200 packets of native seeds, the celebration honored the spirit of the Autumn Wind while inspiring deeper connections to community and the natural world.
Okáǧa Summer-Wind Celebration Brings Music, Art, and Community to Battle Creek
The 2025 Okáǧa Summer-Wind Celebration brought the community together for an evening of music, storytelling, Dakota teachings, art, and laughter at Battle Creek Park. Featuring performances by Jackie Bird and Dakota Wind Goodhouse, hands-on cultural activities, an Indigenous market, and a guided plant walk, the celebration honored the Dakota Summer Wind while creating meaningful connections through community, creativity, and the land.
Nibi Water Walk & Yaŋpá Spring-Wind Celebration Brings Community Together at Battle Creek
More than 100 community members gathered at Battle Creek for the 2025 Yaŋpá Spring-Wind Celebration & Nibi Water Walk, honoring water, welcoming spring, and celebrating Dakota culture through ceremony, art, traditional games, storytelling, and community. From the water walk led by Sharon Day to hands-on workshops, an Indigenous market, and cultural teachings, the day reflected the spirit of renewal while strengthening connections to one another, the land, and the waters that sustain us.
